The magnets in MAGFAST products: what to know

MAGFAST uses small neodymium magnets, the strongest kind commonly available, to align and attach your devices. They're powerful enough to snap devices together and hold them firmly, and they're far weaker than many magnets already in your home.

How strong are they?

Magnet strength is measured as pull force, the force needed to pull a magnet away from a steel plate. The magnets in MAGFAST products are small, and they're no match for those in your speakers, your refrigerator door, your computer or your printer. Your phone already contains tiny neodymium magnets in its speaker, camera and haptic motor, and headphones and laptop speakers contain larger ones.

Hard drives and other storage

The magnets in MAGFAST products won't affect modern storage such as phones, laptops, SSDs and flash drives. For a deeper look at hard drives, the team at KJ Magnetics tested exactly this: even a huge neodymium magnet with a pull force of more than 600 lbs had no effect on a hard drive with its power off.

Older magnetic media is different. Keep magnets, including those in your phone, away from credit card stripes, hotel key cards, and audio and video tapes. See Are MAGFAST chargers safe near my credit cards?

Medical devices

Research shows that magnets can interfere with sensitive medical devices such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).

The magnets in MAGFAST products are small, and our products are thoroughly tested to meet modern standards. We can't verify the shielding and design of every medical device, though, so please talk to your doctor or your device's maker before using any electronic equipment close to a sensitive medical device. That includes your phone, which also produces electromagnetic fields. The American Heart Association has a helpful guide to devices that may interfere with pacemakers and ICDs.

MAGFAST products are not warranted for use with or in close proximity to any medical device.
